Strep Throat and Strep Screening at Pediatric Urgent Care in Orlando, FL
Strep Throat is a bacterial infection that may cause a sore or scratchy throat. This infection spreads easily and is generally transmitted by airborne respiratory droplets in coughs and sneezes or by saliva. Symptoms often include sore throat, fever, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Penicillin based antibiotics may be prescribed to stop the growth of or kill the bacteria but other medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be taken to reduce pain, inflammation, or fever. If you feel like you have strep throat and have any questions, please feel free to ask to one of our friendly medical staff to schedule a visit.
Strep screening is used to see if a person does or does not have strep throat. There is no special preparation needed before taking this test, but your primary care provider will need to note if you have taken any medication prior to taking the test. When giving the test, the care provider will swab the back of your throat, to see if group A streptococcus exists. If not, you do not have strep throat. Please don’t hesitate to consult with Right Now MD during your visit.
